2 Euro Commemorative Coin Andorra 2016 150th Anniversary of the New Reform of 1866 Andorra’s New Reform was promulgated by decree on 22 April 1866. It marked an important transition away from the Principality’s traditional, socially hierarchical system of government toward wider political participation. Guillem d’Areny-Plandolit, an entrepreneur and landowner, was a leading figure in promoting the change. The reform chiefly redesigned the electoral system and granted male heads of household a limited political role; voting rights nevertheless remained restricted and census-based rather than universal. It also reorganized and reinforced the Consell General, the valleys’ principal representative institution. The two-euro commemorative coin issued in 2016 marks the reform’s 150th anniversary. Its design depicts the main hall of the Casa de la Vall, the historic home of Andorra’s parliament.
