2 Euro Commemorative Coin Andorra 2022 The Legend of Charlemagne Andorra’s 2022 commemorative two-euro coin recalls the legend of Charlemagne, who is traditionally said to have founded Andorra in 805 and granted its inhabitants a distinct legal status. Calling this account a legend presents it as an important element of Andorran cultural memory rather than as an uncontested contemporary record. The design links the story to the principality’s natural setting. A stylised mountain landscape and river form the background, while the foreground contains part of Albrecht Dürer’s well-known portrait of Charlemagne. The name “ANDORRA” and the issue year 2022 complete the national imagery. Twelve stars of the European flag surround the design on the outer ring. Andorra issued 70,000 coins in the fourth quarter of 2022.
