2 Euro Commemorative Coin Austria 2016 200th Anniversary of the Austrian National Bank For the bicentenary of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank, founded in 1816, Austria chose a design combining architecture and mythology. Mercury, god of commerce, and Fortuna, a symbol of fortune and prosperity, are taken from the relief above the entrance to the OeNB’s main building. The building itself appears behind them, while an ornamental red-and-white band recalls the Austrian flag. The coin translates the work of a central bank into a symbolic language of trade, stability and prosperity.
