2 Euro Commemorative Coin Finland 2012 150th Anniversary of the birth of the artist Helene Schjerfbeck This Finnish 2‑euro commemorative coin honors painter Helene Schjerfbeck (1862–1946), whose development from formal realist training to a progressively simplified, singular visual language made her a key figure of Finnish modernism. Known for portraits, landscapes, still lifes and decades of self‑portraits, her exploration of self‑image is directly referenced by the coin’s motif. A stylized self‑portrait fills the central field, the artist’s name runs vertically at left and her life dates appear at right. The inner area bears the national mark FI and the issue inscription, while the outer ring shows the twelve stars of the EU. The design is by Erja Tielinen.
