2 Euro Commemorative Coin Finland 2005 60th Anniversary of the Establishment of the United Nations and 50th Anniversary of Finland in UN The coin commemorates Finland’s accession to the United Nations on 14 December 1955 and also marks the UN’s sixtieth anniversary. Finland had applied in 1947 but its admission was delayed by Security Council blockages until the wider decision to admit several states in 1955. The design centers on a dove formed from interlocking puzzle pieces, visually expressing cooperation and how individual elements combine into a larger whole. Below the image appear the national and UN legend and the coin’s issue year; the outer ring carries twelve EU stars. The K and M marks identify engraver Tapio Kettunen and the mint mark or Mint Director Raimo Makkonen.
