2 Euro Commemorative Coin Finland 2015 150th Anniversary of the birth of Jean Sibelius The Finnish 2 euro commemorative coin of 2015 marks the 150th birthday of composer Jean Sibelius, who was born on 8 December 1865 in Hämeenlinna and died in 1957. A contemporary announcement by the Finnish mint listed the coin among the Sibelius commemorations for the anniversary year and specified the release date as 18 February 2015. The design depicts a stylised night sky with stars and treetops, incorporating the inscription JEAN SIBELIUS and the year 2015 into the motif. Nora Tapper is credited as the designer. Sibelius is regarded as Finland’s foremost composer, and his work helped raise international awareness of Finnish culture.
