2 Euro Commemorative Coin Finland 2007 90th Anniversary of Finland's Independence The coin marks the 90th anniversary of Finland's independence and refers to the key date of 6 December 1917, when Parliament approved the independence declaration prepared by the Senate under P. E. Svinhufvud; that day has since been observed as the national Independence Day. The design depicts a boat with nine rowers or nine long oars, with the shared act of rowing serving as a metaphor for cooperation. Above the image is the issue year 2007 and below it the independence year 1917; the mint mark appears at left and the country code FI at right, while the outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union. The designer is Reijo Paavilainen.
