2 Euro Commemorative Coin Germany 2007 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome Germany’s 2007 €2 commemorative coin marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Treaties of Rome. Signed in Rome on 25 March 1957 by the six founding states, the treaties established the European Economic Community and laid an essential foundation for the process of European integration that eventually led to today’s European Union. The common design used by the participating euro countries depicts an open treaty book set against the distinctive paving of Rome’s Capitoline Square, the site of the signing. This pairing links the legal document with its historic setting. Germany’s version bears the occasion’s German inscription and remains legal tender throughout the euro area.
