This successor to the earlier federal-states program presents one German state each year through a distinctive landmark, with the sequence linked to the presidency of the Bundesrat. The design focuses on the Saar Loop near Mettlach-Orscholz, the landscape emblem most closely associated with Saarland. Artist Carsten Wolff portrays it from above, reducing the scene to the river’s winding course and the surrounding wooded hills. The elegant composition turns a recognizable natural feature into a compact symbol of regional character within a shared European currency.
