2 Euro Commemorative Coin Germany 2010 Federal State of Bremen, City Hall and Roland (Bundesländer I) Issued in 2010, Germany’s “Bremen” €2 commemorative coin belongs to the Federal States series and presents two defining landmarks of the Free Hanseatic City: its town hall and Roland statue. The town hall, a seat of municipal self-government since the early fifteenth century, combines Gothic origins with a later Weser Renaissance transformation. In front of it stands Roland, erected in stone in 1404 and associated with Bremen’s rights, freedoms, and market privileges. The coin’s composition therefore links architecture with civic political tradition. It also points to a historic ensemble that has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2004.
