2 Euro Commemorative Coin Ireland 2012 10th Anniversary of Euro coins and banknotes Ten years after euro banknotes and coins entered circulation in January 2002, Ireland joined this common commemorative issue. Helmut Andexlinger placed the euro symbol on a globe at the centre and surrounded it with signs of the areas of life touched by the single currency: people, trade, industry, energy and finance. A ship, factory, wind turbines and a high-rise building make the design both familiar and international. The coin therefore looks beyond the replacement of cash and towards the economic links within the euro area. The initials “A.H.” identify the designer.
