2 Euro Commemorative Coin Ireland 2023 50th Anniversary of Ireland's Membership of the European Union Ireland joined the European Communities on 1 January 1973, organisations from which today’s European Union developed. To mark the fiftieth anniversary of that step, the Central Bank of Ireland issued a commemorative coin in 2023 featuring an adapted version of the EU50 logo. The device combines “ÉIRE”, “EU” and the number 50 in a compact anniversary graphic, while 1973 and 2023 mark the span of time. The coin recalls a membership that has had a lasting influence on Ireland’s economic and social development. At the same time, the open circular element of the logo and its five stars underline Ireland’s continuing connection with the European project.
