2 Euro Commemorative Coin Ireland 2026 EU Council Presidency This coin accompanies Ireland’s eighth six-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2026. Its image uses the official presidency logo: each of the five spiral arms is formed from 27 dots, referring to the 27 Member States of the European Union. The space left at the centre creates a five-pointed star reminiscent of the European flag. The spiral is intended to express movement, growth and cooperation, while also alluding to Irish scientific and design traditions. The inscriptions “EU 2026”, “AE 2026” – the Irish abbreviation for Aontas Eorpach – and “ÉIRE” connect the Council Presidency with Ireland’s national language and the European occasion.
