2 Euro Commemorative Coin Italy 2018 70th Anniversary of the Constitution of Italy Italy’s 2018 commemorative two-euro coin marks the 70th anniversary of the Italian Republic’s Constitution entering into force. Its imagery points back to the decisive moment on 27 December 1947, when provisional Head of State Enrico De Nicola signed the promulgation act. He is portrayed between Alcide De Gasperi, head of government, and Umberto Terracini, president of the Italian Constituent Assembly. The scene therefore evokes the constitutional and parliamentary foundations of postwar republican Italy rather than celebrating a single individual. The date 1948 identifies the Constitution’s effective beginning, while 2018 records the coin’s issue year. The design also includes “COSTITUZIONE,” the Republic’s “RI” monogram, the motto “CON SICURA COSCIENZA,” Rome’s mintmark, and the twelve stars of the European flag.
