2 Euro Commemorative Coin Italy 2010 200th Anniversary of the birth of Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour Italy’s 2010 €2 commemorative coin marks the 200th anniversary of Camillo Benso di Cavour’s birth (1810–1861), honoring a leading political architect of the Risorgimento. As a Piedmontese statesman, Cavour combined domestic reform, economic modernization, and international diplomacy. Through strategic alliances and his interventions in European affairs, he helped turn the Italian question into an international concern and advanced unification under the House of Savoy. In 1861 he became the first prime minister of the newly established Kingdom of Italy. The coin presents a detail from Cavour’s portrait, based on Francesco Hayez’s 1864 painting. His name, Italy’s republican monogram, mint mark, dates, and designer Claudia Momoni’s initials accompany the image, while twelve stars encircle the design.
