2 Euro Commemorative Coin Luxembourg 2014 175th Anniversary of the Independence of Luxembourg Marking the 175th anniversary of Luxembourg’s independence, the coin recalls the reorganisation of statehood enacted by the Treaty of London of 19 April 1839. That settlement separated Luxembourg from the Belgian part of the Grand Duchy and confirmed the country’s distinct political path, while the personal union with the Netherlands continued until 1890. The design features the right-facing effigy of Grand Duke Henri on the right of the inner field. To the left, the dates 1839 and 2014 and the inscription LËTZEBUERG appear vertically; at the bottom the inscriptions ONOFHÄNGEGKEET and 175 Joër appear. The EU’s official description highlights the portrait and layout; the Luxembourg central bank lists the issue title as “175 years independence of Luxembourg”. No designer is credited in the sources.
