2 Euro Commemorative Coin Luxembourg 2017 200th Anniversary of the birth of Grand Duke William III 2 Euro Commemorative Coin Luxembourg 2017 Bicentenary of the birth of Grand Duke William III This issue marks the bicentenary of the birth of Guillaume III (William III), born in 1817, Grand Duke of Luxembourg from 17 March 1849 to 23 November 1890 and concurrently King of the Netherlands. The national side presents paired portraits: to the left, the incumbent Grand Duke Henri looking left; to the right, Guillaume III. The design is accompanied by the inscriptions “HENRI”, “GUILLAUME III * 1817”, and “GRANDS-DUCS DE LUXEMBOURG”, with the twelve European stars around the outer ring. Designer: Herbert Wähner. A winged caduceus denotes the Dutch mint, and a sailing ship identifies Mint Director Ted Peters. The Banque centrale du Luxembourg records the issue date as 26 October 2017.
