2 Euro Commemorative Coin Luxembourg 2022 50th Anniversary of the Legal Protection of the Luxembourg Flag The coin commemorates the 50th anniversary of the legal recognition and protection of the Luxembourg tricolour established by the law of 23 June 1972. That law specifies the national flag as three equally wide horizontal bands of red, white and blue. The commemorative issue was released on 5 July 2022. The obverse pairs a portrait of Grand Duke Henri at left with the national flag at right; the dates '1972' and '2022' appear above and below the flag, and 'LËTZEBUERG' runs along the lower rim. The basic design is credited to a team from the Austrian Mint; some struck variants bear different mint or official marks, including Joaquin Jimenez's mark on French strikes, which is a mint sign and not necessarily the original designer.
