2 Euro Commemorative Coin Portugal 2012 European Capital of Culture Commemorating Guimarães as European Capital of Culture 2012, this coin honors the city jointly designated with Maribor. The capital of culture programme featured four thematic pillars and about 600 cultural events. The inner design shows a stylised Afonso Henriques with his sword and Guimarães castle; to the left are Portugal's coat of arms and "PORTUGAL", to the right "GUIMARÃES 2012" with the event heart logo. Below appear the mintmark INCM and designer JOSÉ DE GUIMARÃES; the outer ring bears the twelve EU stars.
