2 Euro Commemorative Coin Portugal 2015 150th Anniversary of the Portuguese Red Cross The 2015 Portuguese 2 euro commemorative coin marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of the present Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa. The organisation traces back to 11 February 1865, when military doctor José António Marques established the Comissão Portuguesa de Socorros a Feridos e Doentes Militares em Tempo de Guerra; Marques had represented Portugal at Geneva in 1864. Issued on 15 April 2015, the coin honours Portugal's early engagement with the First Geneva Convention. The design repeats the Red Cross emblem and includes a hand outline symbolising medical aid, cooperation and support.
