2 Euro Commemorative Coin San Marino 2012 10th Anniversary of Euro coins and banknotes San Marino’s 2012 commemorative issue celebrates ten years of euro cash in circulation. Euro banknotes and coins entered everyday use on 1 January 2002, initially in twelve countries, replacing their former national currencies. The anniversary therefore recalls more than a monetary change: it marks the moment when a shared currency became a practical, visible part of daily life across much of Europe. The coin places the euro symbol at the heart of the design. Surrounding images express the currency’s relevance to citizens, finance, commerce, industry, energy and research. A European Central Bank tower appears alongside ships, factories and wind turbines, creating a compact picture of economic and social connections. The design was created by Helmut Andexlinger, a professional artist working for the Austrian Mint.
