2 Euro Commemorative Coin San Marino 2009 European Year of Creativity and Innovation San Marino’s commemorative coin marks the European Year of Creativity and Innovation, proclaimed for 2009 by the European institutions. The initiative emphasized creative thinking as a source of innovation and as a foundation for abilities useful in personal life, professional work, entrepreneurship, and society. It therefore presented creativity not merely as artistic expression, but as a practical force supporting development throughout the year. San Marino issued its commemorative piece in May 2009. Its design expresses the theme through a group of scientific and educational symbols: a book, compass, test tube, and flask suggest learning, research, and discovery. These elements are combined with San Marino’s three stylized feathers, linking the European theme to the issuing republic. The year 2009, the inscription “CREATIVITÀ INNOVAZIONE,” and the twelve stars surrounding the outer ring complete the coin’s composition.
