2 Euro Commemorative Coin Slovakia 2017 550th Anniversary of the University Istropolitana Universitas Istropolitana opened in 1467 in Pressburg, today’s Bratislava, and is regarded as the first university in the territory of present-day Slovakia. Founded at the initiative of King Matthias Corvinus, it reflects the region’s place in the educational world of late medieval Europe. The coin shows a teacher and students before part of a historic building, with a medallion of the king. Its imagery presents learning as an enduring bridge between the city’s past and the present.
