2 Euro Commemorative Coin Slovakia 2019 100th Anniversary of the death of Milan Rastislav Stefanik Milan Rastislav Štefánik was an astronomer, aviator, diplomat and general in the French army. During the First World War he played a major role in the Czechoslovak resistance abroad and helped create the conditions for the founding of Czechoslovakia. His death in an aircraft crash on 4 May 1919 gave the centenary year its occasion. The coin’s portrait focuses attention on a figure whose life joined science, diplomacy and political responsibility.
