2 Euro Commemorative Coin Slovakia 2024 100th Anniversary of the Kosice Peace Marathon The Košice Marathon was first held on 28 October 1924, when only eight runners started the race. One hundred years later, the coin honours an event that has grown into a lasting part of the international running calendar. A runner appears on one side of the design and St Elisabeth Cathedral, a landmark of the city, on the other. Athletic endurance and urban identity thus become the two strands of the issue’s theme.
