The national side centres on the building’s façade, with “ESPAÑA” and the year 2017 above, the mint mark to the left and the twelve EU stars around the rim. A legal decree arranged its release during the first half of 2017 and fixed a maximum mintage. Santa María del Naranco is part of the World Heritage grouping “Monuments of Oviedo and the Kingdom of the Asturias.” Erected between 842 and 850 for King Ramiro I as a two‑storey royal residence, it was converted into a church between 905 and 1065 and exemplifies ninth‑century Asturian pre‑Romanesque innovation.
