2 Euro Commemorative Coin Spain 2018 Old Town of Santiago de Compostela - UNESCO World Heritage Sites The Spanish 2-euro commemorative coin of 2018 pays tribute to the historic core of Santiago de Compostela and is the ninth issue in Spain’s UNESCO World Heritage series launched in 2010. The reverse depicts the Santiago Peregrino statue set within the central arch of the cathedral’s Holy Door (Puerta Santa). To the left, “ESPAÑA” curves around, with the date “2018” at lower left and the mintmark beneath; the outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European flag. The design alludes to the city’s 1985 World Heritage inscription for its urban beauty, monumental unity and its role as the apostolic shrine and destination of the medieval Camino de Santiago.
