2 Euro Commemorative Coin Spain 2005 400th Anniversary of the 1st edition of "Don Quixote de la Mancha" Spain’s 2005 2‑euro commemorative coin marks the 400th anniversary of the first publication of Miguel de Cervantes’s El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha. The national mint FNMT regards the novel as one of world literature’s masterpieces and issued the coin as part of the Don Quixote anniversary series. The national side depicts Don Quixote holding a lance, with the windmills of La Mancha receding behind him, while the common reverse carries the standard 2‑euro design. According to the European Central Bank, the left field bears the inscription “ESPAÑA” with the mintmark “M” beneath; the outer ring shows twelve EU stars, four struck in lower relief, and the issue year.
