For more than 28 years, the Wall had represented Germany’s political division and stood at the centre of the Cold War’s European geography. Its collapse marked a decisive turning point, helping to prepare the way for German reunification and a transformed continent. Issued twenty-five years later, the coin recalls both the human consequences of division and the possibility of peaceful change. Its design presents broken sections of masonry forming an opening. Through the gap, the Brandenburg Gate becomes visible, while an olive branch and a fragment of barbed wire contrast reconciliation with the memory of restriction.
