It opened on 29 November 2015 and concluded on 20 November 2016. The jubilee encouraged believers to understand mercy as an active responsibility toward people in need, rather than merely as an abstract religious idea. The coin illustrates this message through the story of Saint Martin of Tours. While serving as a Roman soldier, Martin is traditionally said to have cut his cloak in two and given half to a shivering poor man. A later vision identifies Christ with the recipient. The scene therefore joins charity, empathy, and spiritual recognition in one concise image, accompanied by the year and the Vatican’s jubilee inscription.
