2 Euro Commemorative Coin Vatican City 2017 100th Anniversary of the Fatima apparitions 2 Euro Commemorative Coin Vatican 2017 – 100th Anniversary of the Apparitions at Fatima commemorates a series of religious events reported in Portugal one hundred years earlier. From 13 May to 13 October 1917, the shepherd children Lúcia dos Santos, Francisco Marto, and Jacinta Marto were said to have witnessed six apparitions near Fátima. The final event, on 13 October, became associated with the so-called Miracle of the Sun and helped establish Fátima as an important pilgrimage destination. Issued on 5 October 2017, the Vatican coin recalls this historical and devotional context. Its design places the three children in the foreground, while the Sanctuary of Fátima appears behind them. The inscription “FATIMA 1917–2017” clearly links the depicted subject to its centenary.
