The issue places his intellectual legacy in a seven-century perspective, recalling a thinker whose works shaped medieval Christian theology and philosophy. Pope John XXII canonized Thomas in 1323, and the Summa theologiae remains one of his most influential writings. On the coin, Aquinas appears wearing the habit of his order. He holds the Summa Theologica in one hand and a quill in the other, combining scholarship with authorship. A sun on his chest signifies wisdom, while a lily represents chastity. The composition also includes the church of San Tommaso in Roccasecca and the date 1274.
