2 Euro Commemorative Coin Vatican City 2024 150th Anniversary of the birth of Guglielmo Marconi 2 Euro Commemorative Coin Vatican 2024 – 150th Birthday of Guglielmo Marconi honors the Italian inventor whose work transformed long-distance communication. Born in Bologna in 1874, Marconi played a decisive role in developing wireless telegraphy and shared the 1909 Nobel Prize in Physics with Karl Ferdinand Braun. The Vatican issue also recalls a milestone in broadcasting history. On 12 February 1931, Marconi and Pope Pius XI inaugurated Vatican Radio, and the pope delivered its first papal radio address. The coin’s design unites these scientific and ecclesiastical connections: Marconi’s portrait occupies the center, flanked by Pius XI on the right and Pius XII on the left. His name and the dates 1874–2024 appear above the portraits.
