2 Euro Commemorative Coin Austria 2005 50th Anniversary of the Austrian State Treaty This issue recalls the Austrian State Treaty of 15 May 1955, which opened the way for the restoration of Austria’s sovereignty after the occupation period. Its design treats the treaty itself as a historical record: nine seals of the signatories appear against a red-and-white Austrian flag. In this way, the coin brings together the legal document and the visual symbol of an Austria regaining its independence.
