2 Euro Commemorative Coin Finland 2011 200th Anniversary of the Bank of Finland The coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Bank of Finland. Its origins go back to an 1811 decree by Tsar Alexander I that established in Turku — then Finland’s capital — an "Office for Exchange, Lending and Deposits". That first Finnish bank evolved into the Bank of Finland and was moved to Helsinki in 1819; it did not assume full central banking responsibilities until later in the nineteenth century. The design depicts Finland’s national bird, the swan, whose wings separate the dates "1811" and "2011", while the outer ring bears twelve EU stars. Designer: Hannu Veijalainen. Technical details record the country code "FI" and the mint mark with the heraldic lion; a reported release date of 17 October 2011 is given, though no confirmation was provided.
