2 Euro Commemorative Coin Luxembourg 2012 100th Anniversary of death of William IV The 2012 commemorative marks 100 years since the death of Grand Duke William IV, born on 22 April 1852 at Biebrich on the Rhine; he reigned from 1905 until 25 February 1912. His time on the throne is noted for consolidating the grand-ducal line, above all through confirming his daughter Marie-Adélaïde as heir, thereby ensuring continuity. The inner field shows two right-facing, overlapping portraits: the incumbent Grand Duke Henri and his great-grandfather William IV (inscribed on the coin as "GUILLAUME IV"), set against the silhouette of Luxembourg City. Above the portraits appear "GRANDS-DUCS DE LUXEMBOURG" and the year "2012"; below are the names "HENRI" and "GUILLAUME IV" and, beside the latter, the notation "† 1912".
