2 Euro Commemorative Coin Estonia 2012 10th Anniversary of Euro coins and banknotes Estonia’s 2012 commemorative issue formed part of a common euro-area celebration marking ten years since euro banknotes and coins entered circulation. Released in Estonia on 2 January, it linked the country to a shared European monetary milestone rather than to a solely national anniversary. The central euro symbol expresses the currency’s international reach. Around it, a carefully arranged group of images presents the many spheres shaped by the euro: people represent everyday users, the Eurotower suggests finance, a ship evokes trade, a factory points to industry, and wind turbines connect the design with energy and research. Twelve stars encircle the scene in the outer ring, recalling the European flag and the wider union behind the currency. The initials “A.H.” identify Helmut Andexlinger, whose design won a Europe-wide competition after expert selection and a public online vote. “EESTI”, “2002–2012” and the repeated edge inscription distinguish Estonia’s version.
