2 Euro Commemorative Coin Slovenia 2012 10th Anniversary of Euro coins and banknotes €2 Commemorative Coin Slovenia 2012 10 Years of Euro Banknotes and Coins This coin marks a decade since euro cash entered everyday circulation on 1 January 2002. The currency itself had begun as an accounting and electronic-payment unit in 1999, but the arrival of notes and coins gave European monetary integration a tangible, shared form and replaced national currencies at fixed conversion rates. Slovenia, an EU member since 2004, adopted the euro in 2007. All euro-area countries issued this common commemorative design in 2012. Austrian Mint designer Helmut Andexlinger won a public European competition; its imagery represents the euro’s effects on citizens, commerce, industry, energy and the wider world.
