2 Euro Commemorative Coin France 2013 50th Anniversary of Franco-German Friendship, Elysee Treaty The Élysée Treaty was signed on 22 January 1963 by Charles de Gaulle and Konrad Adenauer. It created a lasting framework for political consultation, youth exchanges and cooperation between France and the Federal Republic of Germany. Only decades after war and occupation, former hostility was transformed into one of Europe’s most important partnerships. The joint Franco-German issue of 2013 recalls this change and the importance of sustained encounters for reconciliation and European integration.
