The mark shows that people were entering and recording their presence in the cave’s underground chambers long before the site became a modern tourist attraction. The anniversary therefore connects Slovenia’s celebrated natural landmark with a medieval history of exploration extending across eight centuries. Regular public visits belong to a much later period. In 1819, Archduke Ferdinand entered newly explored sections, and the railway, introduced in 1872, together with electric lighting from 1883, accelerated the cave’s international tourism.
