2 Euro Commemorative Coin Vatican City 2005 20th World Youth Day - Cologne 2 Euro Commemorative Coin Vatican 2005 – XX World Youth Day commemorates the twentieth international gathering of Catholic young people, held in Cologne and the surrounding area from 16 to 21 August 2005. Participants from many countries met for prayer, worship, and fellowship in a large-scale celebration of faith. The event followed the tradition initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1985 and was guided by a biblical invitation to come and adore Christ. Vatican City issued the commemorative coin on 6 December 2005. Its central design presents Cologne Cathedral beneath a comet-like star, linking the host city with the religious message of the gathering. The inscription identifies the anniversary event, while the year, the Roman mint mark, and twelve European stars complete the coin’s symbolism.
