2 Euro Commemorative Coin San Marino 2013 500th Anniversary of the death of Pinturicchio, Italian painter San Marino’s 2013 commemorative issue marks five centuries since the death of Bernardino di Betto, better known as Pinturicchio. The Italian Renaissance painter died in 1513 and is remembered for his contribution to the period’s religious art, in which narrative scenes and refined visual detail played a central role. The coin features a section of Pinturicchio’s fresco “Christ among the Doctors,” painted in 1501 and preserved in the Collegiata di Santa Maria Maggiore in Spello, Italy. It presents the biblical episode of Jesus debating with the scholars in the Temple. Twelve stars frame the central image, while the dates 1513 and 2013 identify the commemorative occasion.
