2 Euro Commemorative Coin Slovakia 2014 10th Anniversary of the Accession of the Slovak Republic in the European Union On 1 May 2004 Slovakia joined the European Union together with nine other countries. The tenth anniversary invited reflection on that step as part of Europe’s broader transformation after the Cold War. The coin brings together the abbreviation EÚ, the Slovak coat of arms and the date of accession. In doing so, the design deliberately places national symbols and European membership within one composition.
