2 Euro Commemorative Coin Netherlands 2014 The official farewell to the former Queen Beatrix This coin was issued in May 2014, one year after Willem-Alexander’s accession to the throne. Rather than simply looking back at the transfer, it establishes the new order: the king’s portrait overlaps that of Beatrix, now named as princess. Pannos Goutzemisis thus revisited the preceding transition theme while placing the new monarch at the centre. Special variants with coloured crowns echoed the red, white and blue of the Dutch flag.
