2 Euro Commemorative Coin Malta 2014 200th Anniversary of Malta Police Force 200th anniversary of the Malta Police Force: Issued in 2014, this €2 commemorative coin marks the establishment of Malta’s police force in 1814. At the beginning of the British colonial period, Malta’s first governor, Sir Thomas Maitland, created its institutional foundation through Proclamation XXII. From 12 July 1814, the administration and control of the police were placed under an Inspector General of Police who reported directly to the governor. After Malta became independent in 1964, responsibility passed to the Maltese government. The design centres on the police badge, framed by the inscription “200 Years Malta Police Force” and the dates “1814–2014”, while twelve EU stars encircle the image.
