2 Euro Commemorative Coin Germany 2015 25th Anniversary of the German Reunification Issued in 2015, this German €2 commemorative coin marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of German unity. Bernd Wendhut’s design shows people gathered before the Brandenburg Gate, a particularly resonant symbol of the division that was overcome. The words “Wir sind ein Volk” (“We are one people”) recall a key demand of the peaceful revolution of 1989 and point to the political path leading to national unity on 3 October 1990. Rather than depicting one isolated event, the composition brings together civic action, new beginnings and national remembrance. The coin therefore offers a compact reminder of a decisive turning point in Germany’s post-war history.
