2 Euro Commemorative Coin Malta 2015 100th Anniversary of the first flight in Malta 2015 – 100th anniversary of the first flight from Malta: This commemorative coin marks the first recorded flight to take place from Malta on 13 February 1915. A Short Type 135 seaplane, serial number 136, departed from the Grand Harbour for a 35-minute flight over the port. The aircraft had been transported to Malta aboard HMS Ark Royal and was piloted by Captain Cecil F. Kilner. The Central Bank of Malta issued the coin on 25 May 2015 for the centenary of the event. Its central design shows the seaplane flying above the Grand Harbour, with Senglea Point in the background; the inscription identifies the occasion and dates.
