2 Euro Commemorative Coin Portugal 2015 500th Anniversary of the first contacts with Timor The 2 euro commemorative coin was issued on 15 July 2015 to mark the 500th anniversary of first contacts with Timor. It depicts a 16th‑century caravel recalling the arrival of Portuguese navigators and a thatched dwelling decorated with a wooden carving symbolizing myths and legends. The carving refers to early settlers who came by boats from Asia and to the horse's importance for travel across the island's steep interior. Upper right reads "1515 PORTUGAL"; lower left "TIMOR 2015", with Fernando Fonseca's signature and the INCM mintmark. The outer ring bears twelve stars.
