2 Euro Commemorative Coin France 2015 225th Anniversary of the Fete de la Federation On 14 July 1790, the Fête de la Fédération took place on the Champ-de-Mars in Paris. One year after the storming of the Bastille, it was intended to demonstrate unity among the king, the National Assembly, the National Guard and France’s communities. In an early and still open phase of the Revolution, the celebration represented a desire for national reconciliation and a new political order. The 2015 coin recalls that moment and why 14 July later became France’s national holiday.
