2 Euro Commemorative Coin Estonia 2015 30th Anniversary of the EU Flag Estonia’s contribution to this joint euro-area issue marks two milestones in the European flag’s history. In 2015, thirty years had passed since the Council of Europe adopted the flag, while its adoption by the Council of the European Communities—within today’s European Union context—dated back sixty years. The design presents the flag as more than an emblem: it becomes a visual statement about people and cultures coming together and sharing a vision of the future. Its twelve stars are transformed into stylised human figures, arranged in a circle that suggests the formation of a new, united Europe. Because this was a common issue, the national sides are essentially identical, apart from country details and edge lettering. The Estonian piece bears “EESTI”; the upper-right arc combines the country name with “1985–2015”, and the lower-right area carries the initials of Greek artist Georgios Stamatopoulos. The outer ring retains the twelve stars. Estonia released its version into circulation on 10 December 2015.
